Could You Start A Photography Business?

By Warwick Foster

Freelance photographers can earn some really quite good money. If you have an eye for a decent layout, and you enjoy taking photographs, you might be able to sell your photographs or your photographic services for extra cash flow or to build a professional photography business.

Professional photographers can earn up to $200,000 per year. This is the kind of money you might think a doctor or a lawyer would earn. It is possible for you if you learn your skills and hone your marketing. Even if your sights are a little lower than $200,000, there is absolutely no reason why you couldn\'t be generating good cash flow taking wedding portraits, personal or childrens\' portraits, photographs for real estate agents - even animal portraiture can earn big dollars in the right market.

You can charge from $1000.00 to $4000.00 for a wedding, $1500 a day (or more) for Commercial (Business) Photography and $1200.00 a day for Portrait Photography. You can effectively charge whatever your clients will pay, especially if you can show them that your service is unique and provides exceptional value

What do you need? You don\'t need a studio, you don\'t need a darkroom, you don\'t need a shopfront and business furniture. You do need a basic camera with manual controls, and some basic office stationery. You can run your business from home, even from your kitchen table.

Here are some profitable markets: Weddings, Christenings, Engagements, Travel, Portraits including children and animals, Real Estate, Galleries, Sports Organisations, and Graphic Designers.

You can also simply take photographs of anything that catches your eye, or that is of particular interest, and sell these as "stock" photographs.

I wish you all the best! I hope you take your interest in photography, develop your skills (including marketing), and build a great business!
